On Aug. 5, National Nurses United nurses held more than
200 protests across the country to demand that our
elected leaders, government, and hospital employers take
immediate action to save lives. This single event was the
largest action by nurses in the history of the organization.
Nurses held rallies, informational pickets, car caravans,
and other creative actions, capturing national and local
media attention.
RNs were also demanding that the Senate pass the
HEROES Act, which would not only protect health care
and other essential workers by ensuring domestic pro-
duction of personal protective equipment through the
Defense Production Act and by mandating that the fed-
eral Occupational Safety and Health Administration
establish an emergency temporary standard on infec-
tious diseases, but also provide desperately needed
economic help through the end of 2020 to families on
the brink.
Here are a few photos highlighting the protests.
