Membership As a member of the bargaining unit, you are pro- tected by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between your hospital and CNA/NNU. This CBA, or contract, specifies your wages, hours, benefits, rights, professional procedures, and many other matters. You should obtain a copy of the agreement from your nurse representative/shop steward or labor representative. What Does CNA/NNU Membership Offer Me? Representation at work Every year, nurses represented by CNA/NNU have won impressive gains through collective bargaining. Large wage hikes, weekend and shift differentials, and increased pay (tenure steps) for long-term nurses have become the norm. Advocacy at the state capital and in Congress CNA/NNU fights to protect your working conditions and professional practice standards in the legislative and regulatory process. CNA/NNU won enactment in California of A.B. 394 requiring RN-to-patient staffing ratios in all acute-care hospital units and lobbies at the federal level for nationwide legislation benefiting nurses and patients. Professional leadership The CNA/NNU Nursing Practice program pro- motes the highest standards of patient care and RN practice, ensuring that patient care and practice standards are incorporated in collective bargaining agreements and enforced in your workplace. Additional benefits Members enjoy many additional benefits, includ- ing a subscription to National Nurse magazine and substantial discounts on CNA/NNU publications, products, and continuing education workshops. Special discounts on insurance, loans, and financial services are also available through exclusive pro- grams for CNA/NNU members. As a CNA/NNU member, you have the right to: » Vote on the terms of your contract. » Participate in the development of contract proposals. » Participate in strike votes. » Nominate, vote for, or serve as an officer or representative of CNA/NNU. » Attend and participate in CNA/NNU meetings. Termination or Change of Status Please send verification to the membership depart- ment upon separation from your employer or if you are taking a position outside of the bargaining unit. This will ensure that our records are adjusted to reflect this change. Retiree Membership CNA/NNU's Retiree Division is a vehicle for retired members to remain active and connected to col- leagues through local CNA/NNU Retiree Chapters. Retired membership benefits include free access to CE classes, discounts on goods and services through AFL-CIO Union Plus Program, a special-edition Retiree Division scrub, and a subscription to National Nurse magazine.
