Candidate Statements:1 RH Opener 3/16/09 our standards for safe patient ratios, patient advocacy and healthcare for all, both here in California and across the nation. I have the commitment, the desire and the experience to continue as your director. Kathleen Dennis: Chief Nurse Rep, contract negotiations and legislative activity are a few of the CNA/NNOC activities I am involved in now. As a member of the Board I will continue to promote patient advocacy, fight to maintain and further improve implementation of safe patient ratios and protect RN scope of practice. Kathryn Donahue: Patient advocacy and safety, coupled with competent, strong nursing practice are my number one issues. As your board member I will continue fighting tenaciously for patients' rights and against the assault on nursing practice experienced every day we work. Diligent work by unified bedside nurses will make positive change happen. 9:25 PM Page 17 Diane Ellis: My involvement in CNA/NNOC would be to continue to inspire RNs to be the voice that will turn around a declining and deteriorating healthcare system build one that will provide equal and quality healthcare for all. I will organize, energize and empower nurses to fight. Allen Fitzpatrick: As a current member of the CNA/NNOC board of directors I am proud of our priorities and accomplishments over the past several years. I want to continue this work. Geraldine Jenkins: I have been a member of CNA since its inception at UC in 1986. Sharon Johnson: I am running for the Board of Directors to represent my fellow Illinois RNs to continue to build upon the gains we have achieved here in Illinois. If elected I will work to increase communications within our union: membership, elected leadership, and union staff. Coralie (Cokie) Giles: I will encourage nurses to form contracts that will improve staffing and conditions for their patients. Single payer health insurance is a vital step in establishing universal health care as a right rather than privilege and ensuring patient safety. I support this move and will work to effect this change. Mirthia Kaufman: Participated in the 2002 and 2006 bargaining. In doing so I gained a more thorough understanding of the CNA structure. I am a Nurse Rep in my facility. I am a member of the nurse rep council. I am a member of the PPC. I am active in encouraging nurses' participation. Denise Puzzuto Donnelly: I understand the need of commitment and representation including leadership for those who care about quality and patient safety. I can bring to CNA a voice for nurses, provide safety and promote patient care which follows the Nurse Practice Act, helping to influence health care policies to better those involved. Debra Grinstead: I'm running to get better representation. Union dues should be used to represent nurses in California. For the past 2 years I have been unable to contact or receive information from paid union representatives. I will fight to ensure members are able to receive information and representation from their union. Margie Keenan: I have worked in my Region and hospital to promote and increase the mission and accomplishments of CNA. I have worked on the Board of Directors for 8 years and would like to continue that work in the Secretary position. In this time especially we need to be strong advocates for our profession and our patients. Yvonne Drake: I have watched the evolution of CNA in this county for more than 20 years. Initially, CNA served the needs of the membership very well. This is no longer true. Representatives are not responsive to the membership. I will work to insure the nurses in Region 5 get effective representation. Lorna Grundeman: I believe that the success of CNA/NNOC's goals (national ratios and single payer healthcare) depends on establishing a national nurses' movement. Kennedy: If I am elected as the Board of Director Region 8C, I will continue to encourage my fellow nursing colleagues to become active and vocal to ensure that we continue to provide quality and safe patient care, and continue to educate nurses about the importance of advocating for Universal healthcare. Felicia Dreesmann: Nurses deserve expanded avenues that allow their voices to be heard and respected. They need the ability to influence the direction of healthcare during an era of corporate greed. Nurses can embrace a voice of change and say no to the status quo of self-indulgence within organizations they belong. Michelle Gutierrez Vo: The struggles I have encountered in my past personal experiences with our profit driven healthcare has taught me and driven me to raise awareness about our need for Universal Single Payer Healthcare.
