Cover 4:2 12/18/08 11:12 PM Page 20 SAVE THE DATE! January 15 is National RN Call-In Day for Healthcare Justice Let's make our demands ring, ring, ring on the phones of our representatives! This Jan. 15, in honor of Dr. King's birthday, nurses across the country are calling their Congressional representatives to demand healthcare justice for every American. We are the real healthcare experts, and President-elect Obama needs to hear from America's nurses as he plans his healthcare reform proposals. The only way we can achieve the healthcare justice Dr. King envisioned is with a guaranteed healthcare system—such as the expanded and improved "Medicare for All" plan offered by Rep. John Conyers through the bill HR 676. Rep. Conyers has the honor of being the only candidate for Congress ever endorsed by Dr. King. We're confident his plan is the only one that can overcome the healthcare inequality we witness each day. Please join us by making calls to your federal representatives. Call the Capitol switchboard at(202) 224-3121 or check the CNA/NNOC website at calnurses.org or nnoc.net if you need information on how to reach your lawmakers. PHILIP SCHEUER | IMAGES.COM Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said that "of all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane."
