the history of the United States. National Nurses United, in coali-
tion with dozens of community and healthcare organization allies
across the country, celebrated Medicare's accomplishments with a
national day of action that spanned 25 cities, including Boston, New
York City, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, El Paso, Los Angeles, Portland,
Chicago, St. Paul, and St. Louis. In addition to giving thanks to
Medicare, they spoke up proudly in support of protecting, improv-
ing, and expanding Medicare.
Today, two bills in Congress would improve and expand
Medicare to all residents regardless of age and income: H.R. 1200,
introduced by Rep. Jim McDermott, and H.R. 676, introduced by
Rep. John Conyers. Both bills would guarantee a full range of med-
ical services, including primary care, dental, prescription drugs,
mental health, and long-term care with no restrictions on choice of
