innesota nurses are standing
up for fair contracts in more than
half of Minnesota Nurses Associ-
ation bargaining units this year
with actions that show nurses are united in
solidarity, including informational picketing
and unfair labor practice strikes.
In the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area,
4,800 MNA nurses on Labor Day em barked
on a second unfair labor practice strike at
five Allina Health hospitals. Nurses have
been fighting management's insistence that
they give up their health insurance plans
and take more expensive, corporate plans.
At the same time, management is not
responding to MNA proposals on staffing,
workplace violence prevention, education,
and other important
issues.
At an August 26
news conference an -
nouncing their open-
ended strike, nurses
were surrounded by
leaders of other unions
who announced they
were also filing notices
of intent to picket Alli-
na in a show of union
solidarity alongside
striking nurses.
Education Minnesota,
AFSCME Council 5,
and SEIU-Healthcare joined nurses at the
