A
toxic environment leads to
illnesses that ultimately fall to
nurses to heal. That's why
hundreds of National Nurses
United (NNU) RNs, including 70 who
joined 300,000 other demonstrators at the
People's Climate March in Washington,
D.C., spoke, rallied, and marched to demand
environmental justice at multiple events
around the country on April 29.
"As patient advocates, nurses know that it's
our duty to follow the path of a public health
crisis out into the world, where itbegins, and
to fight for environmental justice to prevent
our patients from becoming sick or injured in
the first place," said Jean Ross, RN and NNU
copresident before the DC march.
Senators Jeff Merkley, Bernie
Sanders,andEdward J. Markeyalso introduced
their "100 by '50 Act," a bold plan to support
workers and prioritize low-income communi-
ties while replacing oil, coal, and gas with 100
percent clean energy sources by 2050.
