11 "The hospital won't be able to discipline or terminate incompetent RNs with a CNA/NNU contract in place." CNA/NNU protects RNs from arbitrary and unjust actions by management. However, disciplinary action can and does take place against nurses in CNA/NNU-represented facilities. The difference is that the hospital must follow progressive discipline such as oral counseling, written warning, suspension, and termina- tion. They must show just cause for their actions at each step and allow a sufficient amount of time for a nurse to improve. If an RN still cannot adequately perform her or his job, the hospital has the right to take disciplinary action against the nurse. Myth #4 Truth:
