RNs at two Sutter hospitals settle contracts, remaining RNs escalate their fight CALIFORNIA -- Overcoming those who doubted it could be done, and waging countless hard-fought battles for almost six years, the 800 registered nurses of Sutter Health's California Pacific Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospital overwhelmingly ratified a new contract in April in a campaign that included a community fight that ultimately saved St. Luke's, one of the only hospitals serving the southern half of San Francisco, from closure and preserved critical healthcare access for many future generations of the predominantly lower-income, immigrant communities it serves.
