Hospital charges jump, again
NATIONAL -- It's a lot like when a department store jacks up the original price of merchandise and then marks it down, so that no one is ever sure what is a fair price and the store is still making a killing.
Such is the case also with the prices hospitals charge. In May, National Nurses United's research arm, the Institute for Health and Socioeconomic Policy, released data that showed national hospital charges have skyrocketed 22 points from 2010 to 2011, the biggest leap ever in 15 years of tracking this type of information.
