in june, National Nurses United registered nurses con-
vened in Chicago for their 2016 Staff Nurse Assembly and then
segued that commitment to patient advocacy into unprecedented
coalition building by hosting the People's Summit, an extraordinary
gathering of more than 3,000 progressive activists, thinkers, lead-
ers, students, celebrities, and organizations whose common goal is
to use the momentum generated by the Bernie Sanders campaign to
build a long-term, populist movement to win social, racial, econom-
ic, and climate justice in the United States.
"Many of us are here because of the Bernie Sanders campaign...
but it's important to remember that elections are not movements,"
said RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of National Nurses
United, during the opening plenary on June 17. "But they can be a
