moment in a movement. And this is a magical moment in history. Be proud. It's a break with the past. It's a political rupture. What I love about this moment in the movement is the injection of new energy, analysis, and most importantly, unity of purpose. In this unity of purpose, where we come together, we will build and we will win." Though the summit adopted no formal agenda or platform, everyone agreed to four avenues to make progress in movement building: elect likeminded progressives at all ballot levels; running bold issue campaigns that are true to our movement demands; using direct action and civil disobedience to further the movement; and building lasting independent political power organizations rather than just temporary electoral campaign structures. Many of the summit participants, whether high-profile actors and authors such as Rosario Dawson and Naomi Klein or local con- cerned community members, expressed great gratitude to National Nurses United and to nurses for convening the event and for their tireless advocacy in all sectors of American life; fighting for not just healthcare for all, but for free higher educational opportunities, against the fossil fuel industry, and for living-wage jobs. "It was the nurses who got the ball rolling on this particular gath- ering," said Klein, who has written seminal books on corporate glob- alization and, most recently, the capitalistic underpinnings of climate change.
